The New Wilderness Metaphor
The New Wilderness is a metaphor that is central to our approach. It represents the landscape of differences that exist between people and communities. A journey into the New Wilderness is one where we discover more about ourselves and others. It’s a place that no one person or group owns, where we come together to learn and communicate. The New Wilderness is a landscape of vision and possibility.

Creative expression, powerful simulations and integration of multiple learning styles are elements that define the NWP approach. NWP programs provide participants with the experience and tools that empower them as leaders who can effectively and creatively communicate across difference to create positive change in their communities.

New Wilderness Project works in partnership with schools and organizations across the country. Through multimedia performance art and experiential learning, our work builds awareness of diversity, guides cultural competence, encourages courageous leadership, inspires stewardship for nature, and provides a framework for participants to take creative action.
